Our Story

Pins & Needles is more than a movement; it is the story of change, a story of hope and message of the power of women. Started on 18th April 2017, such message stemmed from the desire of a group of women who wished to change the world for the better. These women dreamed of a world in which career and success were not determined by gender or fate but in which every woman had the necessary means with which to stand on her own and be financially independent. What started as that dream became quite a remarkable journey a journey that uses creativity, talent, hard work and determination to transform lives and bring joy.
But at the core of Pins & Needles, there is passion of turning lemons into a lemonade. These are the women who are part of this movement In many a case, these are women who bear the stories of difficult early lives. Such experiences of physical, emotional and financial abuse have contributed to their tales, but they are not their-scripted master narratives. They come to Pins & Needle to receive help and what this Self Help Group (SHG) gives them is so much more – an opportunity for a new beginning, for reclaiming their lives and becoming whatever they want.
Behind each crafted detail, the women of Pins & Needles let the beauty of festival and happiness into every little corner of Delhi and more. From Christmas trees with a charm touch to well crafted Ladiyan for Diwali, their creations reflect the love they put into their creations. Every single one is a product of their passion, hard work, and talent and the cultures they pay homage to. No, these are not only ornaments but pride, optimism, and the amazing nadir of every woman’s spirit.

The Training of Creation

With the help of master coach Maya Daimaa and her team, women are being taught how to turn themselves into efficient handloom weavers. This program also enables them to do the same and teach others in effort to create more self employed people. With the support of 30 plus working women, the possibilities of enhancing the skills of artisans do not end at developing a profitable craft but also bringing about personal change. The participants in her programs are Shalini Narang who works with more than 20 women, Deepika Singla who guides 12 women, Pragyan Patnaik mentored 15 women, Nandini who is working with more than 30 women and Anusuya trained 20 women. A good number of these participants are not only artisans but craft heads that are enumerated in the public.

Trainers emphasize an apprenticeship model while making certain that everyone in the talented team. This is passionate about design. In doing so they design an elegant collection of objects, from stuffed toys and mats to potli bags and chic hard accessories. These creations are not only magnificent, but sustainable as well, and created using upcycled cotton, wool, and fabrics that might have otherwise been a waste. Also, they bear social characteristics indicated by the fact that the material used is posted on generous donations. This initiative perfectly fits the definition of creativity, sustainability, and empowering people that is why it reflects the Maya’s vision of the future.
